Why does DealerRater ask for specific Facebook Permissions when connecting to the Dealer Panel?

Connecting DealerRater to Facebook allows you to manage your Facebook reviews in the Dealer Panel. During the connection process, Facebook requires you to allow DealerRater access to some of your Facebook data. This article will explain how this Facebook data is used by DealerRater to allow you to manage your reviews through the Dealer Panel:

After the page selection step, Facebook will prompt you with permission questions for the pages you checked off.

In order to see and respond to your reviews in the Dealer Panel, all permissions MUST be checked off. Below we will go into what each permission grants DealerRater access to and how DealerRater uses this data below:

  1. Create and manage content on your page: This allows you to respond to Facebook reviews in the Dealer Panel. This also allows you to use the Facebook Wall tool and the Facebook Testimonial feed.

    1. Note: This permission allows you to respond to reviews in the Dealer Panel. Unless you are a subscriber to our AutoResponse product, DealerRater will not edit, update, or respond to your review content. We are only providing the ability for you to manage your Facebook reviews from the Dealer Panel. Furthermore, DealerRater cannot make changes to your Facebook profile.

  2. Manage comments on your Page: This allows DealerRater to display Facebook comments in the Dealer Panel and then allows you to respond to these comments in the Dealer Panel.

  3. Read content posted on the Page: This permission allows DealerRater to pull in content from your Facebook wall that you posted, in order to be displayed in the Dealer Panel. This permission does not apply to content written by Facebook users.

  4. Read user content on your page: DealerRater uses this data to display your reviews in the Dealer Panel.

  5. Show a list of the pages you manage: Allows DealerRater to see what pages you manage and want to connect to the Dealer Panel. We can only get data from pages selected in the page selection screen.

    1. We do not have access to passwords associated with your account.

Key Points:

What am I giving DealerRater permission to do with my Facebook page?

The permissions allow the Dealer Panel to display reviews left by your customers and give you a convenient way to respond to your Facebook (along with your DealerRater, Google, and Cars.com) reviews all in one place.

Will DealerRater have the ability to edit my dealership's Facebook page?

DealerRater does not have edit access to your Facebook profile and will not ask for edit access.

If I grant all of the permissions that DealerRater is requesting, will they post content or comment on other posts on my page?

DealerRater will not respond to any reviews or make any updates to your Facebook profile on your behalf. Connecting these pages only allows DealerRater to pull in your Facebook review content into the Dealer Panel for you to view, or pass responses to reviews submitted by you through the Dealer Panel into Facebook (unless you are a subscriber of our AutoResponse product).
