Consumer Satisfaction Award: Overview

DealerRater Consumer Satisfaction Award

The DealerRater Consumer Satisfaction Award was first introduced in 2015, to recognize the top-performing dealerships on DealerRater. Through this award program, a percentage of DealerRater's top-ranked dealerships throughout the United States and Canada are awarded for outstanding customer satisfaction as evidenced through customer reviews submitted to DealerRater.com.

For all dealerships which meet the minimum criteria (listed below) for the award, a percentage of the top-performing dealers based on their PowerScore will receive a Consumer Satisfaction Award.

Every Year, Consumer Satisfaction Awards are awarded based on the previous calendar year. For example, the 2016 Consumer Satisfaction Awards are based on the complete 2015 calendar year.

Award Criteria

In order to qualify for a Consumer Satisfaction Award, a dealership must meet the following criteria:
  • Minimum of 25 reviews on DealerRater for the previous calendar year.
  • Minimum of 1 positive review in each calendar quarter of the previous calendar year.
  • Average rating greater than 4.0 (out of a maximum of 5.0) for reviews received during the previous calendar year.
  • Must not have been blacklisted during the previous calendar year.
Scoring

Who Will Receive a Consumer Satisfaction Award?
For all dealers that meet the above criteria, a PowerScore will be calculated based on the dealer's performance on DealerRater over the previous calendar year. A percentage of the top performing dealers, based on their PowerScore, will receive the award. You can view a list of 2016 Consumer Satisfaction Award winners by following the links below:

What is a PowerScore™?
A dealer’s PowerScore is based on its average star rating and number of reviews. We use a Bayesian algorithm to determine an eligible dealer’s PowerScore each quarter of the year. The average of the quarterly scores gives us an overall score for the year.

What is a Bayesian algorithm and why does the PowerScore use one?
A Bayesian algorithm compares multiple statistics against a baseline average. Essentially, we compare each eligible dealer to the average of all the other eligible dealers to see where they stack up. This gives us one number which we can use to rank the award finalists. This system makes it important that a dealer receive a good number of positive reviews consistently throughout the year in order to be in best standing for Dealer of the Year awards.
